Welcome to St Paul's Christmas Service

“The King Has Come”

Here and now, light in the darkness

Here and now, hope for the hopeless

Emmanuel

Here and now, You kept Your promise

Here and now, You proved You’re for us

Emmanuel, Emmanuel

Miracle of miracles

The King has come to dwell with us

The Son of God, the Great I Am

The King has come to dwell with us

The King has come to dwell with us

The angels sing the highest of praises

The heavens ring the song of salvation

Emmanuel, oh Emmanuel

Miracle of miracles

The King has come to dwell with us

The Son of God, the Great I Am

The King has come to dwell with us

The King has come to dwell with us

Hope is alive, hope is alive

Hope is alive forever

Oh Jesus is here, Jesus is here

Hope is alive forever

(repeat)

Miracle of miracles

The King has come to dwell with us

The Son of God, the Great I am

Oh Jesus has come to dwell with us

(repeat)

“O Come O Come Emmanuel”

O come, O Come Emmanuel

And ransom captive Israel

That mounts in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appear

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel

O come, Thou Dayspring come and cheer

Our spirits by Thine advent here

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night

And death’s dark shadows put to flight

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel

Shall come to Thee, O Israel

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel

Shall come to Thee, O Israel

O come, Thou Key of David, come

And open wide our heavenly home

Make safe the way that leads on high

And close the path to misery

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel

Luke 2:1-21

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,  and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told to them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

“Angels We Have Heard on High”

Gloria, in excelsis deo

Angels we have heard on high

Sweetly singing o’er the plains

And the mountains in reply

Echoing their joyous strains

Shepherds why this jubilee

Why your joyous strains prolong

What the gladsome tidings be

Which inspire your heavenly song

Gloria in excelsis Deo

Gloria in excelsis Deo

See Him in a manger laid

Whom the choirs of angels praise

Mary, Joseph, lend your aid

While our hearts in love we raise

Gloria in excelsis Deo

Gloria in excelsis Deo

Come adore on bended knee

Christ the Lord, the newborn King

(repeat 6x)

“O Come All Ye Faithful”

“O Holy Night”

O holy night,

The stars are brightly shining

It is the night

Of our dear Savior’s birth

Long lay the world

In sin and error pining

’Til He appeared

And the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope

The weary world rejoices

For yonder breaks

A new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees

O hear the angels’ voices

O night divine

Oh night when Christ was born

O night divine

Oh, night O night divine

Truly He taught us

To love one another

His law is love

And His gospel is peace

Chains He shall break

For the slave is our brother

And in His name

All oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy

In grateful chorus raise we

Let all within us

Praise His holy Name

Christ is the Lord

O praise His name forever

His power and glory

Evermore proclaim

His power and glory

Evermore proclaim

Fall on your knees

O hear the angels’ voices

O night divine

Oh night when Christ was born

O night divine

Oh, night O night divine

“Reckless Love”

There’s no shadow You won’t light up

Mountain You won’t climb up coming after me

There’s no wall You won’t kick down

Lie You won’t tear down coming after me.

(repeat 3x)

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending

Reckless love of God

Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found

Leaves the ninety-nine

I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it

Still you give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending

Reckless love of God.

“Silent Night”

Silent night holy night

All is calm all is bright

Round yon virgin mother and Child

Holy Infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night holy night

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heav’nly hosts sing alleluia

Christ the Savior is born

Christ the Savior is born

Silent night holy night

Son of God love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus Lord at Thy birth

Jesus Lord at Thy birth

“Joy to the World”

Joy to the world the Lord is come

Let earth receive her King

Let every heart prepare Him room

And heaven and nature sing

And heaven and nature sing

And heaven and heaven and nature sing

Joy to the earth the Savior reigns

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods

Rocks hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat the sounding joy

Repeat repeat the sounding joy

No more let sins and sorrows grow

Nor thorns infest the ground

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found

Far as the curse is found

Far as far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness

And wonders of His love

And wonders of His love

And wonders wonders of His love
